Thanks to DSR Lakes and Ponds for organizing today’s water chestnut weed pull at Coes Reservoir and a big thanks to all the volunteers! On June 21, 15 volunteers were out on Coes Reservoir scouting for this pesky invasive. Thanks to the efforts of the Lakes and Ponds over program over the past years to eliminate water chestnut, there were not many plants. This is fairly early in the season and the weather has been cool, so the plants we did find were small (most fit in the palm of your hand). With the great work done by the volunteers, we ended up removing over 50 pounds of water chestnut. (in my estimation 150+ plants). These small plants could have grown to as large as 1- 2 feet by August, and their seeds could have produced hundreds more plants in upcoming years.
