Storm Drain Workshop A Success

The presentation by Worcester city employees Jacquelyn Burmeister and Ian Weybourne, “Where the Storm Drain Ends: Worcester’s Grey Infrastructure and Surface Water Quality.” was a great success. We had a great turnout, with folks from TBWA waterbodies, Indian Lake, Lake Quinsigamond, and students from WPI. Jacquelyn reviewed why working to keep pollutants out of stormwater is so important to the water quality in our lakes and ponds. Ian gave a great overview of the city’s drainage system and explained how it works.

Jacquelyn and Ian provided maps of drainages around major waterbodies in the city, and everyone got a chance to look at details about the inlets and discharges to our streams, lakes and ponds.

Over the next few months, TBWA will be working on a stormwater outreach effort that will include marking stormwater drains and educating Worcester residents about ways to keep pollutants out of our waterways.
